📒 SUMMARY + NOTES

3 strategies to achieve deep work:

  1. monastic strategy: eliminating all distractions and secluding oneself like a monk

  2. Bimodal strategy: clearly define long periods of seclusion for work. The rest is free and can be used to meetings and other stuff

  3. Rhythmic strategy: form a habit of deep work blocks (90 minutes) followed by non-deep-work blocks (and track them in tools like Time App in Microsoft)

  4. Journalistic strategy: take any unexpected free time (e.g. from meetings) to deep work.

Despite technique choice, the key to remember these strategies are methodical and not random!

Deep work != being in the zone because:

  • Deep work is desired and intentional

  • Being in the zone happens by chance after hours of procrastination

  1. Repare your space

  2. Set boundaries

  3. make it sustainable
